STUART AMES
“Ames takes us to Nepal not just to seek exotic adventure in the Himalayas but to explore the tenderness and vulnerability of Norbu, a man any reader would climb a mountain to meet. When Norbu’s soul breaks, Ames shows us how love, friendship, and faith bring redemption to everyone within Norbu’s reach. Rich in story and spare in words, The Sherpa’s Burden is a brilliant first novel.”

The Sherpa's Burden
Through thin air and a blinding storm, Norbu Dorje guides a group of climbers down an icy Himalayan peak. But when his dear friend dies during the descent, a rival guide blames Norbu. Distraught, the Sherpa retreats to his home village and the darkness of his own mind. As his wife, children, and the monastery abbot witness his decline, they work for Norbu’s peace. Their efforts deliver surprising results for each of them and the entire community. Years later, while rescuing a trekking party, Norbu comes face to face with his rival. How much is he willing to risk to save the life of an adversary?
